LNG Carrier Market to be Smaller
Daishin Securities of South Korea forecasts on Sep 14 that shipbuilders of Korea would have a lower newbuilding order for LNG carriers in 2012.
Researcher Jeon Jae-Chun from Daishin said, "In recent three years, LNG carrier's new order was no more than 3.3 vessels in a year, however, new order records 42 ships year to date and a total of 55 ships in 2011."
And added, "Jump of newbuilding orders for LNG carrier owes to increasing demand in clean energy and alternative energy after recent Japanese nuclear power plant crisis and follow-up rising LNG price."
Jeon analyzed, "Considering gas field projects and annual LNG supplies, 30-35 vessels of LNG carriers are calculated to be needed for a year from 2013."
Also forecast, "If 55 ships are to be new ordered, which is about LNG carriers for one and a half year, newbuilding order would lower to 30 vessels from 2012."
