Sallaum Lines has returned to China Merchants Shipyard for another large car carrier newbuilding, signing for one firm 8,600 ceu vessel with an option for a second.

The LNG dual-fuel ship will be built ammonia-ready and is scheduled for delivery in 2029.The latest contract follows Sallaum’s order last month for two firm and two optional 8,600 ceu ships at Xiamen Shipbuilding Industry, the largest vessels booked by the company to date.

Sallaum said the new China Merchants contract lifts its newbuilding programme to nine vessels with a combined investment of more than $850m.

Four ships from the programme have already been delivered, with another two scheduled to join the fleet in August and December. The remaining three firm vessels are due in 2029.

The company previously contracted a series of 7,400 ceu LNG dual-fuel car carriers at China Merchants Jinling Shipyard.
