Japanese export ship delivery jumps
Japanese shipbuilders contracted a total of 36 newbuildings of 1.24m gt for export in November, which is 38% up against the previous month in GT terms.
According to a report recently released by Japan Ship Exporter’s Association (JSEA), Japan won a total of 318 vessels of a combined 12.68m gt (5.99m cgt) during January-November period, sharply increasing by 69% compared to the corresponding period a year ago.
The ships contracted for export in November are 28 bulkers (four Handysizes, 19 Handymaxes, two Panamaxes and one coal carrier, one ore carriers and one chip carrier), four general cargo ships, one Aframax tanker and three LPG carriers.
Of total of 36 vessels, foreign currency denominated contracts took 73.7% proportion and delivery years are as the follows; 13.5% scheduled in fiscal year of 2013, 22.7% in FY 2014, 44.3% in FY 2015, 18.9% in FY 2016 and 0.6% in FY 2017.
During this fiscal year ended November (April-November, 2013), Japanese yards contracted new orders for 254 vessels of a combined 9.26m gt, up by as much as 74% from the corresponding period a year ago.
Meanwhile, overall 22 vessels of 1.06m gt went through customs in November, which represents delivery, sharply increasing by 75%, year-on-year. For the first eleven months of this year, a total of 275 vessels of a combined 12.14m gt (5.35m cgt) got clearance, down by 16% year-on-year.
As of the end of November, orderbook for export ships stood at 594 vessels of 25.15m gt, or 11.78m cgt, slightly down in gt term but up in cgt and numerical terms from 25.55m gt (11.35m cgt, 552 vessels) recorded at the end of March.
As for delivery date, 107 vessels of 4.78m gt are planned for delivery in 2013, 270 vessels of 11.51m gt for 2014, 169 vessels of 6.52m gt for 2015, 47 vessels of 2.28m gt for 2016 and one vessel of 60,000 gt for 2017.
