Hyundai Mipo Dockyard announced on December 18 that the Korean shipbuilder had been awarded contracts for 22 newbuildings including 20 PCs, two LPG carriers and so on from three European operators.

Hyundai Mipo President Choi Won-Gil signed a newbuilding contract for six 37,000 dwt Product/Chemical Tankers with a Marshall Islands-based operator in London on December 12.

These newbuild PCs will be applied with Hyundai Mipo's in-house developed eco-friendly technology while the construction is planned to commence in September next year for delivery from July, 2015, in order.

Earlier, the Marshall Islands-based operator ordered 12 same-sized newbuildings at the Ulsan-based builder in October and November, adding a total 18 newbuildings to orderbook of the yard. The operator seems to be Navig8 Chemical Tankers.

Continuously, on December 13, Hyundai Mipo entered into an agreement to build 14 medium-sized PCs with BP Shipping of the UK, followed by another order for two 38K LPG carriers inked with a Europe-based operator on December 16.

With these latest contracts, the Korean shipbuilder achieved 183.4% of its annual order aim ($3.2bn), with having won 169 newbuildings for $5.87bn including 131 medium-sized PCs and etc. in this year so far.

Hyundai Mipo's such performance surpassed a record of 118 newbuildings posted in 2007, a shipbuilding boom period.
