Trading and enquiring activities in secondhand bulker market have been on stable upturn in the period due to the warming up in domestic dry bulk shipping market, especially for small bulkers.
Enquiries for 5,000dwt bulker increase mildly, however the expected low-price ships are still rare. Besides, the demand for 10,000dwt to 20,000dwt bulkers increases against rising freight rates, especially small, shallow-draft ones which are flexible to operate. Many buyers plan to purchase such vessels of good conditions which can be put in services in South East Asia once domestic shipping market recessed again. Some “cash buyers” are planning to purchase cheap 20,000dwt and bigger bulk carriers, however the enquiries still keeps the same level.
As the year end drawing closer, the situations for shipping market, shipowners and shipping lines become more complex: economy is likely to bottom out, the government plans more supporting, but freight rates sees no recovery. As a result, the confrontation between the buyer and seller becomes more intense.
In the period, a three-year 13,000dwt bulker was changed hand at a price of CNY18.0m. Besides, a one-year 16,000dwt bulker was traded at about CNY28.0m. Both the prices are rumored without confirmation.
In the period, secondhand price index for three-year 16.500dwt bulkers rises by 6.36 points. The ship prices increase against rising freight rates and stimulate the buyer's purchasing desire. Indices for other ship types all declined in the period.
The price of product tanker has been cut down for the fourth time since the beginning of this year, however transaction activities see no obvious increase for terminal needs have no changes recently. Oil shipping market has been relatively stale in the period. The transactions of 1,000dwt and smaller tankers as well as tankers with heating equipments increase slightly. Demand for 2,000dwt to 3,000dwt tankers focus on Grade I vessels, especially from buyers in South East Asia and Middle East area. Enquiries of small DH Grade III tankers are still depressed due to low supply and slack dirty oil shipping market. Enquiries for 4,000dwt to 5,000dwt tanker keep low in the overall oil shipping slump.
In the period, a newbuilt tanker and a three-year one with heating equipment were transacted, however actual contract value were not revealed. Insiders estimates the price is about CNY4,0m.
The secondhand price indices for different tanker basically keep the same period with last period. Some tanker prices see mild increases, however whether the upturn will go on is subject to the overall oil shipping market.
The enquiries for 3,000dwt to 5,000dwt containerships are still active and buyers are mostly from overseas.
The demand for engineering ships has seen continuing decline. Sales for mud barge and deck barge dropped slightly.
