Shipbuilding industry is put on emergency alertness as newbuilding price shows downtrend again in the second half, all-around bulkers being rapidly dropped by 10% on the beginning of this year, in particular.
According to Clarksons, Clarkson Newbuilding Price Index made another downturn with 141 point in the end of September.
Newbuilding Price Index topped with 142.1 pt in the end of May and started to fall to 141pt from July, due to massive drops in prices of tanker and bulker.
A falling of bulker's newbuilding price is remarkable. Average newbuilding price for 180,000-dwt capesize bulker plunged to $51m, down by 11% on the beginning of this year and by about $3m from June.
Also, 76,000-dwt panamax and 57,000-dwt handymax all declined to $30m and $28.25m by 13% and 9%, respectively, in comparison with the beginning of 2011.
Meanwhile, average newbuilding price for tanker fell by 4-7%, as well. Aframax costed $53m in the end of September, down by 9% on the beginning of this year. Suezmax also collapsed 6% to $62.5m and VLCC showed the smallest fall with $100.5m, dropped by 4%.
Boxship, on the other hand, is under recovery by a small margin during the second half and LNG carrier is now contracted for $202m, which is about the same as in the second half last year.
