Scandlines' 2nd Hybrid Ferry Departs Shipyard
German-Danish ferry operator Scandlines saw its second new hybrid ferry "Copenhagen" for the Rostock-Gedser route leave the Danish shipyard Fayard on Dec. 19, 2016.
According to the company, the newbuilding is scheduled to be put into operation on Dec. 21 from Gedser in Denmark.
Named in late October, the new ferry can transport up to 2,600 passengers, 920 cars and 192 lorries between Rostock and Gedser, doubling Scandlines' current capacity on the route, according to the company.
During the last couple of months, the vessel completed a comprehensive test programme (Harbour Acceptance Tests), followed by a five-day sea trial (Sea Acceptance Tests) in late November.
After the sea trial, Copenhagen returned to the shipyard for final adjustments.
In addition, Scandlines plans to rebuild the injection system of engines aboard both its hybrid ferries, Berlin and Copenhagen. The company said that, as the new injection modules cannot be delivered until Jan. 1, 2017, both vessels will therefore be converted during January 2017.
