Newbuilding Price Keeps Falling
Clarkson Newbuilding Price Index has dropped for two months in a row to 140.8p by the end of August, down by 0.7p on previous month.
Bulker and tanker's benchmark newbuilding prices decreased in every size, comparing to the end of last year.
But LNG carrier keeps its value, on the basis of 160,000-cbm, worth $202m.
According to Clarksons, worldwide newbuilding orderbook continued its downtrend in August as well, recording 6,686 ships, 411.1m dwt in the end of last month.
Newbuilding order was 45 ships of 2.8 dwt in the same month, the least monthly amount this year. Also, newbuilding order totals $3.4bn, the biggest fall from the monthly-average during Apr-Jun period of $9bn.
In August, orders for 13 boxships worth $1.1bn were placed, bringing the number of total containership orders to 198 vessels, $16.9bn from January to August.
And an overall six cruiseships were new ordered year to date and three of them were from last month.
Meanwhile, newbuilding delivery for August was 90 ships of 5.9m dwt totalling $4.6bn and July-newbuilding delivery was corrected at 198 vessels.
During Jan-Aug period, bulker delivery recorded 719 ships, 59.2m dwt, expected to even exceed 1,000 vessels for the year, the record high.
