Goldenport drops plan to buy seven bulkers
Goldenport Holdings has aborted a plan to acquire seven dry bulk carriers from its founding Dragnis family.
Goldenport had earlier in April planned to purchase the 58,400-dwt Maria (2011-built), the 35,000-dwt Ioanna D (2012-built) and five Green Dophin newbuildings set for delivery in 2015 to 2016.
London-listed Goldenport said the board has decided not to proceed with the acquisition plan as it will not be in the best interest of the company and its shareholders during this period of time.
“The company entered into option agreements to acquire option interests in respect of seven identified vessels on 2 April 2014. The board does not currently intend to exercise the options and expects that they will expire on 30 June 2014, unless they are extended by the grantors in the meantime,” Goldenport revealed.
“The board remains confident in the outlook for the dry bulk sector and will continue with its stated strategy to rebalance and grow the company's fleet of small and medium sized dry bulk carriers,” it added.
