Qingshan adds Eco BCs
Qingshan Shipyard turned out to have bagged an order for three 43,500 dwt bulkers for $70m in total from Hamburg Bulk Carriers (HBC).
In June of this year, the Chinese shipbuilder was awarded 3+9 units of 43,500 dwt bulkers from HBC and three vessels took effective among the nine options. Including the latest order, Qingshan is to build a total of six 43,500 dwt bulkers for HBC.
HBC is also planning to exercise the rest six options in the upcoming month. The 12 units of 43,500 dwt newbuilding is said to be valued at $270m in total.
Jens von Husen, executive director of HBC, said that the builder has a plan to place an order for six eco-friendly vessels at a Chinese yard at the end of the year with around $130m to be invested.
The 43,500 dwt bulker series, comprising 12 units at most, will be constructed based on an adjust design from a standard one developed by Deltamarin of Finland, to meet with HBC’s requirements for draft and breadth.
According to the shipbuilder and the owner, these newbuildings boast high-efficiency and eco-friendly features with consuming extremely few fuel oil, less than 20 tons per day, and this was verified through research, development and model experiment continued for two and a half years.
