Shipowners appreciate DSME
Recording ‘no accident’ in offshore sector, Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering is receiving consecutive gratitude greetings from shipowners.
The Korean shipbuilder announced on November 1 that it had been granted a safety incentive from Norwegian drilling operator Odfjell.
Odfjell gave a $25,000 safety incentive to Daewoo which continues ‘no accident’ rally with a semi-submersible drilling rig under construction.
The offshore rig was placed at Daewoo in 2012 and the Norwegian operator is providing incentives when a builder meets up with its standards of safety and quality.
In addition, the Korean builder also received an appreciation plaque from another drilling company, Vantage Drilling of the US, for accomplishing ‘no accident’ record during construction period of a drillship project.
Having placed the drillship order at Daewoo in 2011, Vantage ordered another drillship unit at the same builder in July, 2013.
For 26 months of construction period for the drillship delivered in July to Vantage, Daewoo set a record of ‘no accident and no injury’. This is considered to be a result from the builder’s the world’s best level of safety management system, such as enclosed area management and so on.
The presentation ceremony was held in Daewoo’s Okpo yard in Geoje, attended by Dave Weatherly, vice president of Vantage, and Daewoo executives and drillship project officials.
