SPP Wins its 1st AHTS
The leading MR tanker builder, SPP Shipbuilding of Korea is pleased to announce on May 29 that it finally entered Offshore Supply Vessel (OSV) market successfully, winning a total of two (optional unit inculded) Anchor Handling Tug Supply Vessels (AHTS) with a price tag of around KRW 67.3bn (equating to $60m) apiece from a European owner.
The 90-meter length vessel is a large AHTS with high specifications which enable numerous supports to offshore platforms, such as drilling rigs and etc., equipped with Dynamic Positioning System (DP2) and Fire fighting.
The AHTS is slated for delivery in the latter half of 2014.
SPP CEO Kwak Han-Jeong said, “This contract is an example to prove SPP’s technology in OSV sector, a technology-intensive industry.”
“According to market reports and etc., a considerable amount of OSV demand is expected, particularly from South America and so on as maritime resources development is increasing globally. Thus, SPP’s participation in OSV market will accelerate further going forward,” Kwak added.
