A joint-venture company between Exmar and Teekay LNG Partners plan to order four pioneering LPG carriers that will run on LNG.
More precisely, the propulsion system would be capable of running on LNG, LPG and heavy fuel oil.
The future generation 38,500-cbm LPG carriers are most likely to be ordered in Korea.
SPP Shipbuilding, STX Offshore & Shipbuilding and Hyundai Mipo Dockyard are the highly likely candidates.
On December 5th Exmar and Teekay LNG Partners announced that they reached an agreement to create a new 50/50 joint venture to be named Exmar LPG BVBA which will operate in the LPG carrier segment. Exmar will contribute 16 owned LPG carriers to the new JV.
Exmar LPG would renew and grow the fleet, and discussions are already underway with various yards to secure additional orders, they added.
