STX Offshore & Shipbuilding’s Dalian yard has inked an order for up to four medium-range (MR) units from Wilmar International.
Sources say the Singaporean owner booked a pair of 52,000-dwt products tankers for delivery in 2015, plus two options. No price has been disclosed.
Market players familiar with Wilmar believe it has ordered the tankers to use in its own vegoil trades.
In addition, Wilmar has a pair of 4,200-dwt bunker tankers at China’s Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding (SWS). It signed up for the duo in April at less than $8m apiece and is due to take delivery of them next year. The deal includes four options.
