Jinhai Disposes of Capes
Jinhai Heavy Industries of China is in the process of selling six, possibly as many as seven, capesize newbuildings to different owners.
The 176,000-dwt ships are more or less for prompt delivery and were originally ordered by troubled Chinese company Grand China Logistics (GCL). They have been sold for some $36.5m each.
Two of the Jinhai capesizes are set to end up with Bocimar of Belgium. Managing director Benoit Timmermans confirms this but declines to comment on the price.
Another pair is said to have been picked up by Singapore-based Berge Bulk, controlled by the sister of Andreas Sohmen-Pao of the BW group. Prior to the Jinhai deal, the company had a fleet of 23 large bulkers including newbuildings.
Greek bulker owner Golden Union is also said to be acquiring two capesizes from Jinhai on the same terms as the others. It is listed with a fleet of eight modern capesizes.
Jinhai is also said to be close to selling two 80,000-dwt bulker newbuildings.
