South Korean smelting company LS-Nikko Copper — a joint venture between South Korea’s LS Corp and Japan’s Nippon Mining & Metals Co — has ordered a handysize 37,700-dwt bulker at compatriot Hyundai Mipo Dockyard.
The newbuilding is scheduled for delivery in September 2013 for between $24m and $25m.
An LS-Nikko Copper executive confirms the order and says the company recently established a new outfit called CS Line to oversee the group’s shipping activities.
“We are planning to deploy the handysize-bulker newbuilding for shipping the raw materials from Chile,” he said.
