IOTC Tenders for Tonnage
Iraqi Oil Tankers Co is looking to continue its revival with the addition of another vessel to its fleet.
The state-owned company has tendered for a 6,000-dwt newbuilding or resale crude carrier.
Bids can be submitted until 23 April, a statement on its website said.
The vessel will be added to the five tankers it currently operates, according to data from Clarksons.
They include four 13,000-dwt vessels built in 2006/7 and a 36,000-dwt single-skinned unit built in 1973.
Basra-based IOTC was dormant for a number of years following the devastation wrought by the Iran-Iraq War and subsequent Gulf Wars, during which time Iraqi crude was shipped on a free-on-board basis.
TradeWinds reported recently that John Fredriksen’s bulk carrier owner Golden Ocean had signed a deal to help rebuild Iraq’s merchant fleet.
The firm has agreed an MOU with a venture called Iraqi Maritime Company though details of the plans are still sketchy at this stage.
