Jiangnan Shipyard Wins Bid for Construction of China's 1st Polar Scientific Research Icebreaker

Chinese shipbuilder Jiangnan Shipyard (Group) Co., Ltd. won its bid for the construction of China's first polar scientific research icebreaker on July 28, according to a domestic shipping news portal.
The icebreaker was jointly designed by Finland-based Aker Arctic and No.708 Research Institute, CSSC.
The vessel will have an endurance of 20,000 nautical miles and be capable of breaking ice with a thickness of 1.5 meters.
The construction of the vessel will start at the end of the year.
