UK-based offshore drilling firm Ensco has revealed plans to scrap another five jackup rigs and a drillship, in addition to breaking three jackups and three semisubmersible rigs currently classified as held for sale.
Ensco announced the move in its latest set of results with Carl Trowell, CEO and president of Ensco, saying that the rigs "are no longer part of Ensco's go-forward fleet."
The five jackups to go are Ensco 56, Ensco 81, Ensco 82, Ensco 86, Ensco 99 and drillship Ensco DS-1 is the other to go.
All 12 of the earmarked rigs have now been cold stacked to reduce expenses. "By scrapping rigs, we eliminate costs and contribute to reducing global rig supply," added Trowell.
