Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. under state-owned China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) signed a contract with China Shipping (H.K.) Holdings Co., Ltd. for the construction of six 20988teu container vessels, the largest in the world, on Oct. 30, according to a domestic shipping news report.

Each of the newbuildings will measure approximately 400m in length overall, 58.6m in breadth moulded, 33.5m in depth moulded, with a designed draft of 14.5m.

They will be classed by LR and CCS.
