Sungdong Bags Japanese Order
Sungdong Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering has won an order for two more kamsarmax bulkers from Japanese shipowner.
Nisshin Shipping's latest order brings its order tally at the South Korean shipyard to three kamsarmaxes and one capesize.
Well-placed sources say the company has gone back to Sungdong Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering for two more 82,000-dwt kamsarmax bulkers.
A source close to Sungdong confirms Nisshin’s latest order and says the vessels are slated for delivery during the second half of 2012. The owner’s earlier newbuildings, which were booked in March last year, are due for delivery at the end of this year and early next year.
Nisshin is reportedly paying less this time, due to the market downturn and oversupply. The owner is said to have paid under $35m each for its latest two newbuildings, while the kamsarmax bulker ordered last year cost the company between $35m and $37m.
