Capesize BC Order Claws Back
In 2011, worldwide newbuilding orders for capesize bulk carriers total about 30 vessels by now, however, it recently grows gradually.
Most of foreign shipowners resumed placing new orders in haste, considering ship price hitting bottom.
However, Japanese shipowners' order shows complete halt in this year. Aside from forecast of bottomed price lasting at least for a year, Japanese owners remain cautious about deciding the best ship type.
Market predicts very large ore carriers of 250,000 dwt to be the standard bulker in the near future, as ultra-large bulkers, shipping iron ore and coal from West Africa, Mozambique, etc, to the Far Eastern countries, would increase demand and Australia is possible to scale up the standard bulker as well.
Even though demand for 180,000-dwt standard capesize bulker still exists, capesize bulker is rather risky to order, having large orderbook. Once decision on the best size bulker is made, order would resume in earnest.
