Splurge for Shipbuilding & Offshore
South Gyeongsang Province of Korea announced on December 24 that it had designated six industries (shipbuilding and offshore plant, intelligent machine system, aerospace, nano-fusion technology, machine-fusion material, anti-aging bio) as core strategy industries and established medium-and long-term plans by industry after going through in-depth examination of various aspects, such as industrial intensity in the province, possibility of development, correspondence of global industrial development trend related to balanced regional growth and so on.
In the medium-and long-term plans of shipbuilding and offshore plant industry, lately released by the province, there suggested a vision of remaining Korea as the world’s No.1 country of shipbuilding offshore plant till 2020 through overcoming crisis and arranging preemptive measures in line with industrial transition (shipbuilding→offshore plant) along with specific aims including an increase in export to double till 2020 ($25.2bn in 2012 ⇒ $51.9bn in 2020), 60% localization of offshore plant equipment, (20% in 2012 ⇒ 60% in 2020), offshore leisure industry’s achieving share of 10% in global market and so on.
The province is planning to remain Korea’s position as the world’s No.1 country of shipbuilding and offshore plant industry in 2020 with investing KRW 1.5trn till 2020.
To materialize the plan, from next year, South Gyeongsang will push ahead with reflecting national policy project in construction business of offshore plant production and research complex, continuously training of specialists to secure source technologies of design and engineering, systematizing operation of test and certificate center for LNG & cryogenic equipment, establishing Goseong Offshore & Shipbuilding Complex and so on in order to convert shipbuilding-focused industry to offshore plant industry with promoting competitiveness from next year.
An officer of the province said, “With the established medium-and long-term development plans and road maps, we will do our utmost efforts in lowering entry barrier to global market through providing healthy industrial ecosystem, training specialists, supporting export marketing and etc. for large and smaller enterprises to achieve a win-win.”
