HMD inks 153 ships worth $5.2bn
Hyundai Mipo Dockyard announced through a regulatory filing on December 12 that the Korean shipbuilder had entered into an agreement to build six Product Carriers (PC) with Marshall Island-based shipowner.
The contract is valued at KRW 219.8bn, which corresponds to 5% of the builder's recent revenue. This value is equivalent to about $208.80m, or around $34.80m apiece.
With the contract signed on December 11, the last unit of the newbuilds is slated for delivery on November 30, 2015.
Meanwhile, Top Ships of Greece released a regulatory filing on the same day that the shipowner had placed an order for one 39,000 dwt Eco PC at Hyundai Mipo for about $35m. It is planned to be delivered in the third quarter of 2015.
Accordingly, in this year to date, the Ulsan-based builder has achieved around $5.2bn contracts in total for 153 vessels including 117 medium-sized PCs and etc., surpassing its yearly order target, $3.2bn, by $2bn.
