SHI scored $300m FSRU, PCs

Samsung Heavy Industries announced on December 13 that the Korean shipbuilding giant had scored orders to build one LNG-FSRU and two Product Carriers for around $300m in total.

The Korean builder was awarded a contract to construct a unit of LNG-FSRU from global shipping company BW. The owner had also entered into a newbuilding contract with the builder for one LNG-FSRU in January this year.

Floating Storage and Regasification Unit, LNG-FSRU is a vessel capable of supplying directly to a market onshore after going through LNG regasification into natural gas. The inked unit is slated for delivery in 2016.

Since this year, the Korean builder has won around $3bn solely in LNG carrier market, having sealed deals for two LNG-FSRUs, 12 LNG carriers and so on. The number of LNG carriers globally placed this year amounts to 36 in total and Samsung inked more than a third of it.

Meanwhile, the shipbuilding conglomerate also inked a deal to build two PCs with an European shipowner on December 10.

Including the latest contracts, in this year so far, Samsung has won $12.6bn orders in total, achieving 97% of its yearly order target, $13bn.
