CNOOC eyes FLNG & LNGCs

China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) is said to be considering to put a small floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) facility for producing natural gas in offshore gas field.

Weizhong Luo, President of CNOOC Gas & Power Division, said, “We are thinking to operate a small-sized FLNG which has less than 2.50m tons of yearly production capacity however securement measures or related plans are still all under consideration,” reported by TradeWinds.

In addition, the press said that CNOOC would charter 145,130 cbm GDF Suez Cape Ann, which is being anchored offshore Tianjin, for five years to put it in LNG-FSRU project, China’s first floating offshore LNG importing terminal.

Meanwhile, CNOOC is planning to additionally order a newly built LNG carrier along with the floating LNG facility.

Luo said that CNOOC currently has six LNG carriers in its fleet, which were delivered from Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding, and is planning to expand the fleet to 10 units through further new orders as having inked a letter of intent for two firm LNG carriers plus two options in partnership with BG Group.

Moreover, other Chinese yards including Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Co. and so on will be constructing LNG carriers soon, he continued.
