Qingshan Shipyard is said to have won a contract to construct up to 12 Ultramax bulkers from German shipowner Oldendorff Carriers.

it is the latest disclosure that Oldendorff has already placed a newbuilding order for firm six units of 64,000 dwt bulker plus a same number of options at the Chinese yard, according to TradeWinds.

These newbuilding are planned to be delivered in 2015-2016 and newbuilding price is not disclosed. However, industry players said that the contract seemed to have been sealed before the recent rise in ship value and guessed the 64,000 dwt would cost less than $25m apiece.  

The newbuilding price of 64,000 dwt has increased to $27m, currently.

Meanwhile, Oldendorff is pushing ahead with rapid fleet expansion as standing on backlog of 43 newbuilding units plus 18 options including the latest contract.
