Taizhou Kouan Shipbuilding announced that the Chinese builder had entered into a newbuilding contract for 10 38,500 dwt bulkers on November 8 with foreign shipowner Marine Capital.

The newbuildings are new Handysize bulker to be constructed based on 'Green Dolphin 38' series design which boasts low energy consumption. Classed by Lloyd's Register, each 38,500 dwt bulker has 180m of length, 32m of breadth with 15m of height with 9.5m of design draft.

Meanwhile, back in August, the Chinese builder scored another contract for five newbuildings of the same-sized vessel from the same owner. Including the latest contract, 38,500dwt bulkers the builder is to construct expand to a total of 15 units.  

This awarded contract followed a deal inked with a German owner on October 17 for eight 208,000 dwt bulkers. Through the latest two newbuilding contracts, Kouan could be able to realize a large production of medium to large sized vessel in shipbuilding area.
