COSL orders 3 offshore rigs

China Oilfield Services Ltd (COSL) turned out to have placed orders for three offshore drilling facilities, ‘Haiyangshiyou 982’, ‘Haiyangshiyou 943’ and ‘Haiyangshiyou 944’, at compatriot Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Offshore (DSIC Offshore) and China Merchants Heavy Industry (Shenzhen), on October 30.

The ‘Haiyangshiyou 982’ to be constructed upon this order is semi-submersible drilling platform, equipped with DP3 dynamic positioning system. In addition, it has a rated water depth of 5,000 feet (1,524m), be equipped for up to 30,000 feet (9,144m) drilling depth. Delivery is planned in August, 2016.  

Jack-up drilling platform, ‘Haiyangshiyou 943’, has a rated water depth of up to 400 feet (122m), equipping for 35,000 feet (10,668m) drilling depth, while ‘Haiyangshiyou 944’ is able to fix legs stably even on unreliable ground, applied with special footing with a wide area as China’s first footing jack-up drilling unit. This has a rated water depth of up to 400 feet, capable of drilling up to 30,000 feet (9,144m).

These two jack-ups are slated for delivery in September and October, 2015, respectively.

Meanwhile, China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (CSIC) announced through a regulatory filing on October 31 that its offshore engineering and manufacturing firm Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Offshore Co Ltd (DSIC Offshore) had been awarded semi-submersible drilling platform ‘Haiyangshiyou 982’ and jackup drilling platform ‘Haiyangshiyou 943’ on October 30 from compatriot COSL.
