Chevron Contracts Dockwise's New Heavy-Lift Ship
Dockwise signed the first contract for the world’s largest heavy-lift vessel with U.S. oil company Chevron for a undisclosed sum.
The Netherlands-based company said the 110,000-ton-capacity heavy lift ship will transport an oil platform hull from Hyundai Heavy Industries shipyard in South Korea to the U.S. Gulf of Mexico immediately following its delivery in the final quarter of 2012.
Heavy-lift shipping company Dockwise ordered the $240 million “Type 0” vessel earlier this year.
The contract with Chevron “is a very clear sign that this vessel will rapidly earn its place in the market and …. has the potential to create a new market of its own,” said Andre Goedee, CEO of Oslo-listed Dockwise.
Dockwise’s current largest vessel is the 73,000-ton-capacity Blue Marlin.
