China’s Jiangsu Hantong Ship Heavy Industry bagged a newbuilding order for up to four ultramax bulkers from Bergen-based shipowner Spar Shipping of Norway.
According to industry sources, the deal includes two firm plus two options, slated for delivery from 2015.
Newbuilding price has not been disclosed but market players estimate it to approach around $25m apiece.
Meanwhile, Jiangsu Hantong is currently pushing itself harder to win small and medium sized bulkers. Back in April this year, the builder had contracted an agreement to build three firm and two options of 64,000 dwt ultramax bulker with a Japanese owner, followed by a contract to construct three 38,800 dwt handysize bulkers plus two options signed with German’s Peter Dohle.
