Facing rising prices and filling up of yard capacity, shipowners are losing better conditions to invest in newbuilding MR product carriers.
d'Amico International Shipping, which is preparing to exercise options for two MR PCs at Hyundai Mipo Dockyard of Korea, said regarding possibility to book additional newbuildings.
CEO Marco Fiori said “Now the window is starting to close a little,” and “All of the yards are full so there is not much to be done at this point.”
Also, he pointed out that Korean yards are asking around $34m-35m apiece for MR tankers, a bit higher than last year's.
Meanwhile, the Italian owner has approximately $85m amount of cash and is able to secure about $30m from corporate fund, which seem enough for its newbuilding investment.
