SAMJIN SHIPBUILDING INDUSTRIES CO.(SSI), having a shipyard in Weihai, Shandong Province, China, has recently signed the shipbuilding contract with Korean Buyer IMT Incorporation for the construction of two firm plus two optional units of 7,000 DWT product carriers.
This is the first order of this year for the Korean shipbuilder who last year received an impressive volume of orders amounting to USD 800 million for an array of newbuilding Vessels including Handymax Bulkers and 6,700 CEU class PCTCs with prominent European Buyers.
SSI confirmed that three units of IMO type 2 & 3 SUS chemical tanker project is also under negotiation with the same Buyer.    
SSI officials said that with this order SSI has gained a foothold toward the medium and small sized tanker market in addition to main product portfolios such as Handymax Bulkers, medium sized Container Ships and large PCTC’s.
