STX Group chairman Kang Duk-soo participated in the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum and signed a contract to build LNG carriers for Sovcomflot on June 17th.
South Korea's STX Offshore & Shipbuilding announced early this month that it inked a $400m contract to build two 170,200㎥ Membrane LNG carriers for Sovcomflot on May 31st.
STX also agreed on options to build two more samy type vessels.
Meanwhile, on 17th, STX chairman Kang also met with Russian president Dmitry Medvedev and Russian Deputy Prime Minister Igor Sechin and discussed about Russian shipbuilding industry's development measures and cooperation  on resources development.
He also met with Novatek chairman Mikhelson for talks to jointly develop LNG carriers.
An official from STX O&S said, "STX could win the LNG carriers as it has aggressively developed ice class vessels. We will put spur to winning more new orders for offshore plants as well as merchant ships."
