As high-degree designing capacity requested for Eco-Ship, there would be no more competing shipyards entering into Eco-ship segment.
Park Mu-Hyun, analyst of E*Trade Securities in Korea, said "Shipyards with lots of building experiences will have high productivity and designing capacity is a core competitive power in shipbuilding industries."
He said Chinese shipbuilding industries were estimated to have around 2,500-2,800 people in state-owned ship design human resources center, while Korean shipyards had about 15,000 ship-design experts as of the end of 2011.
Eco ship demands more complicated design and technology as various kinds of fuel-saving equipment are equipped, Park emphasized.
Moreover, he said despite their disadvantaged competitiveness in designing, Chinese shipyards were moving towards offshore market from commercial ship market.
Park said "If China places its design experts into offshore segment, tight competition in medium-sized merchant ships will be softer." He pointed out medium-sized Eco ship, requiring high-degree designing capacity would become high-value market.
