On December 8th, the Ministry of Transport and Wuhan Shipbuilding Industry Co., Ltd have successfully sign a newbuilding contract for the construction of a large oil spoil response vessel (OSRV) or oil skimmer. Shen Hao and Fu Xinghua, Director and Deputy Director of China Rescue and Salvage of Ministry of Transport as well as Yang Zhigang, President of Wuhan Shipbuilding signed on the contract.
The vessel is said to be the first oil skimmer for shanghai salvage system and is mainly used for emergency operation in China offshore oil spill control and recovery as well as wreck oil leakage plugging. The vessel features advanced technology, large storage capacity, broad deck, excellent performance and is to be equipped with secondary dynamic positioning system. The ship has multiple functions such as platform supply, oil field guard rescue, with 1st class fire protection system, implementation of DP - 2 positioning homework and adaptation to the saturation diving operation, etc.
