Hyundai Mipo Dockyard of Korea has expanded an Con-Ro ship order from Italy's Grimaldi.
An existing order for three Con-Ro ships has been increased to five vessels with the vessel size also extended to post-panamax class.
HMD signed three Con-Ro newbuildings with the owner earlier this year, in September. The newbuilding deal comprised three firm 29,000-dwt Con-Ros for delivery in 2014, plus two options.
The options seem to have been exercised recently.
The HMD newbuildings will carry more cargo and consume less fuel than the ships they will replace. The price tag of the ships is unknown but industry sources estimate it at around $70m per vessel.
