Japanese Ink 20 Export Ships
Japanese shipbuilders have contracted overall 20 export ships of 0.79m gt in August of 2012, which doubles those contracted in the same month of last year, according to the Japan Ship Exporter’s Association (JSEA) on September 19.
In August, 17 vessels or 0.61m gt of export ships were delivered, down by 40% y-o-y. And Japanese shipyards saw more new order than delivery for the first time in around eight months.
Two boxships, 16 bulkers (seven handysizes, four handymaxes, three panamaxes, one post-panamax and one ore carrier) and two tankers (one VLCC and one aframax) were contracted.
Now Japanese shipbuilders recorded export-ship new order reaching 100 vessels of a cumulative 4.75m gt, during the first eight months of the year, which represents 20% decrease year-on-year.
Meanwhile, orderbook for export ship, as of the end of August, stood at 631 vessels of a combined 28.61m gt (12.71m cgt), which turned around to increase for the first time in eight months.
