HMD Inks Con-Ro & PCTC
Hyundai Mipo Dockyard signs more Con-Ro and PCTC newbuildings from overseas owners.
Italian Liner owner/operator Grimaldi has inked three Con-Ro newbuildings at the midsize-ship specialist yard in Korea.
The newbuilding deal is understood to comprise three firm 29,000-dwt Con-Ros for delivery in 2014, plus two options.
The HMD newbuildings will carry more cargo and consume less fuel than the ships they will replace. The price tag of the ships is unknown but industry sources estimate it at around $70m per vessel.
Meanwhile, Israel’s Ray Shipping is said to have ordered one more 6,700-ceu pure car-truck carrier at HMD for delivery in 2014.
It brings the number of newbuildings Ray has on order at the yard to six. Market sources say the price would be in the mid-$60m.
