Korean Ship Exports Dive
Korea's ship export is limping by direct influence from depressed European economy.
According to the Ministry of Knowledge Economy on September 6, ship-related products' total export in August totalled $2.82bn, down by 34.2% year-on-year.
Increased deliveries of low-margin newbuildings ordered in 2009-2010 is said to be the biggest reason.
However, ship export will recover from the next year when high-value vessels contracted from last year begin to be delivered.
Meanwhile, Minister of Knowledge Economy Hong Suk-Woo will accompany President Lee Myung-Bak's visits to Russia, Greenland, Norway and Kazakhstan.
He said that he will have in-depth talks with Norway, regarding cooperation in deep-sea offshore plant technology and equipment.
