Global shipowners are being offered to build a series of up to 20 MR products carriers in Korea for charter to energy major Royal Dutch Shell.
Industry sources say the project called “Project Silver” is for 10 MR PCs of 50,000 dwt with an option for a further 10.
Negotiations are said to have centered on Hyundai Mipo Dockyard and SPP Shipbuilding in Korea, sources said.
At present MR PC newbuilding price is around $33m-35m per vessel at Korean shipyards but Shell is said to be seeking a price below $30m apiece.
