STX Offshore & Shipbuilding of South Korea’s Chinese facility in Dalian has inked a letter of intent (LOI) for five plus five 5,000-teu boxships with London-based Zodiac Maritime Agencies.
The newbuilding containerships cost $40m per ship, the lowest ever attained in the sector, for delivery from early 2014.
Sources said, “STX Dalian has some early dock spaces to fill up and was driven to offer such a ‘special price’ to the owner."
