STX Offshore & Shipbuilding of South Korea has signed a contract for optional four 170,000-cbm LNG carriers with Russian shipowner Sovcomflot, at 2012 Saint Petersburg International Economic Forum.
With this additional contract, STX will deliver a total of 10 newbuildings to Sovcomflot, including the existing six LNG carriers. Now STX has four firm orders plus six options.
Along with the option deals, Sovcomflot signed an agreement for long-term time-charter for two of the newbuildings with Royal Dutch Shell. The duo are under construction at STX Jinhae shipyard for delivery by the end of 2014.
