About 60 medium-range product carriers have been placed orders year to date, which already exceeds overall 50 orders in the whole 2011.
South Korean shipyards, including Hyundai Mipo Dockyard, STX Offshore & Shipbuilding, SPP Shipbuilding, etc., have bagged over 70% of MR orders, while in China, Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI), etc., inked the contracts.
Also, ShinaSB Yard and other shipbuilders in South Korea have already been nominated for several projects and are now having a final negotiation.
However, newbuilding price seems to be significantly low despite massive demand for MR PCs, due to keen order competition.
At present, newbuilding MR pc is priced around low-to-mid $30m, which has dropped around $1-2m, compared with the beginning of this year.
