Japan's Sasebo Heavy Industries revealed Friday that it has stopped work on a new 84,500-cbm VLGC which had been slated for delivery in December 2013.
Clarksons lists cash-strapped Sanko Steamship as having such VLGC on order at Sasebo, the only such vessel on the yard's books.
Sanko confirmed it had cancelled the order. The owner has 12 newbuildings on order in total, including another VLGC, bulkers, a chemical tanker, anchor handlers and PSVs.
The yards affected also include Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Hakodate Dockyard, Oshima Shipbuilding, Universal Shipbuilding, etc.
