Daewoo Signs Semi-sub Rigs

Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering of South Korea has successfully booked an order for offshore facilities at an OTC (Offshore Technology Conference) 2012 in Houston, the US.
Daewoo contracted for two semi-submersible drilling rigs with Songa Offshore of Norway on May 3 (local time), it announced.
The contract value is about $1.1bn. The pair of drilling rigs will be constructed at Daewoo's Okpo yard due to be delivered by May 2015. These rigs will be chartered to Norwegian state-owned Statoil for eight years and operated in Norwegian offshore, North Sea and Arctic region.
Meanwhile, Daewoo's labor union head Sung Man-Ho participated in the contract ceremony and stated that staffs would work hard to construct the highest quality of rigs.
Also, president Ko Jae-Ho said, "By showing union-management harmony, we were able to gain trust from the owner."
Meanwhile, including the recent contract, Daewoo contracted overall 15 vessels/offshore units, totalling about $5bn year-to-date, of which offshore sector accounted for about 66%, $3.3bn.
