Hyundai Mipo Dockyard of South Korea has contracted for one 6,500-car-equivalent-unit pure car/truck carrier (PCTC) for delivery in mid-2013 from Ray Shipping of Israel.
No price has been disclosed but market experts put it at around $60m.
With additional order for one PCTC, Hyundai Mipo has brought the number of Ray's newbuilding PCTC tally to five.
Ray has four 6,500-ceu PCTCs under construction at Hyundai Mipo as part of a 10-ship order placed with the Ulsan-based shipyard in 2007. The yard has already delivered six vessels.
Meanwhile, Earlier this month, Ray was reported to be expanding its presence in the dry-bulk arena and was said to be in close talks with Hyundai Mipo for four supramax bulkers for delivery from the end of 2013. One source says the talks are ongoing.
Ray entered the dry-bulk segment two years ago by switching two 6,500-ceu PCTC newbuildings and two medium-range (MR) tankers at Hyundai Mipo into four supramax bulkers. It is due to take delivery of the vessels this year and 2013.
