Global Orderbook Rebounded
Global newbuilding orderbook has rallied after a long interval.
According to Clarksons, newbuilding orderbook in the world stood at 5,760 vessels of a cumulative 349.4m dwt in the end of February, up by 2.76% in dwt terms and by 2.44% in numerical terms from 5,623 vessels of a cumulative 340m dwt in the end of January.
Therefore, some suggested, the market seems to have hit the bottom.
An estimated 63 vessels of a combined 3.1m dwt were contracted in February, up by 22% month-on-month in terms of dwt. In case of delivery, overall 94 vessels of a cumulative of 7.6m dwt were delivered in February, down from 267 vessels of a combined 19.6m dwt in January. Increased new order and decreased delivery would have contributed orderbook rally.
Meanwhile, 200m dwt bulkers are on the book, up from 189.2m dwt in previous month. Except orderbook for LNG carrier went up by 0.6m dwt to 5.4m dwt, tanker and containership's backlogs have dropped a bit, in general.
