Japan Inks 11 Export Ships
According to the Japan Ship Exporters' Association (JSEA), Japanese shipbuilders' export ships contracted in February 2012 are 11 vessels of 0.4m gt, down by 23% on the same month last year, which include one car carrier, one product carrier and one chip carrier and eight bulkers (three handysizes, two handymaxes and three panamaxes).
Net export ship recorded six vessels, with foreign exchange-based contracts made up about 75%, 20% of yen-denominated and 5% of yen and foreign exchange denominated.
In case of delivery, 84% of vessels are to be delivered in 2013, 11% in 2014 and 5% in 2015.
Meanwhile, about 27 vessels of 1.02m-gt export ships were delivered in February, down by 19% year-on-year.
Japanese shipbuilders secured overall 788 vessels of 35.69m gt (15.78m cgt) of orderbook as of the end of February 2012, which covers 2.2 years in terms of 2011 delivery.
