Norway’s Sevan Drilling has taken delivery of the newbuild deepwater drilling rig Sevan Brasil. Chinese yard Coso confirmed on Tuesday it had signed delivery documents for the circular rig, the second of four it is constructing for the Norwegian contractor.
Sevan Brasil is to operate in the Brazilian pre-salt on a six-year fixed contract for Brazilian oil giant Petrobras.
Cosco previously delivered the Sevan Driller, another semi-submersible drilling rig, to Sevan Drilling back in November 2009. It is now operating Brazil’s Campos basin.
Like the Sevan Driller, the new Sevan Brasil is a cylinder shaped floater based on the Sevan 650 design, with the capacity to drill wells up to 10,000 metres in water depths of up to 3000 metres.
It also has a variable deck load of more than 20,000 metric tonnes and is equipped with a storage capacity of up to 150,000 barrels of oil.
